This is not a sale/trade list, this is merely meant to document the audio recordings that exist for the musical version of "Carrie" (but if you're looking to snag some recordings, it'd be wise to peruse this page for goodies). Information about video and other merchandise is available here. If you know of any recordings that I've overlooked, if you can provide additional information about any of these tapes and/or if you spot some hideous blunder I've made, please let me know.

Complete performance of the workshop production, which was only the first act.August 1984
There seems to be a huge discrepancy in the date of release. The book "Not Since Carrie" cites this staging in August of 1984, while some online sources cite this production as 1985, others 1986. Some minor research proved that the recordings were copyrighted in 1984.

Main Cast: Barbara Cook (Margaret White), Linzi Hateley (Carrie White), and ??
I've seen numerous references to this but know very little about it. Some of the preliminary rehearsals for the show were captured on tape. I know for certain that "I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" is circulating (it's surfaced on a bootleg of the closing night performance) but I have no clue if any other tracks appear on this tape. "I Remember..." is comprised of numerous rehearsals -- the track tops off at a whopping 18+ minutes.

Audience recording. It sounds like the tape was transferred slightly faster, because Buckley gets a bit chipmunky at times.

"When There's No One"
Betty Buckley first released a studio recording of "When There's No One" on her 1993 album "Children Will Listen;" it later surfaced on "Betty Buckley's Broadway." Both albums are now out of print.

"Carrie"
Linzi Hateley, the star of the Stratford/Broadway show, released the title song on her 1994 album "Sooner or Later." Presumably the disc didn't get a massive release, it's practically impossible to find today.

"Unsuspecting Hearts"
"Carrie"/"And Eve Was Weak"
June 10, 1996
In 1996, Betty Buckley invited Linzi Hateley to make a surprise appearance at an AIDS benefit concert held at Carnegie Hall. Hateley sang the title song from "Carrie" and the pair dueted on "Eve Was Weak." Hateley later stated that the appearance provided her some closure that she never got when the show was prematurely yanked off Broadway. The concert was recorded and later released as Buckley's album "An Evening at Carnegie Hall" -- unfortunately Linzi wasn't present on the disc. It's speculated that the recording was omitted because the orchestra was a bit askew during their duet. Audience recordings on both audio and video have been circulating; video of "And Eve Was Weak" has also been leaked online.

"Unsuspecting Hearts"
Broadway Stars Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley released the song on their 1999 album of the same name. It appears the album is now out of print, but it's not hard to find.
March 2001
In 2001, there was an allegedly authorized performance of the play at a high school in Denmark. A 2-disc soundtrack was available at the school, marking the only official recording of the full play. However, the songs are in Danish and the CDs are difficult to come by.

The video recording from stratford is dated FEB 13 1988
Any clue as to whose voice that is commenting on the Stratford rehearsal track? She objects to the raising of the key, and says of Barbara Cook, "She's fierce."
I have absolutely no idea, Michael. Quite honestly, I haven't listened to the track in its entirety yet.
Can you PLEASE psot the workshop for download?
I can only post what I have, which is why there's not downloads for a lot of these. Ironically, I just got the workshop yesterday, but I got three different versions of varying sound quality from three different sources (when it rains, it pours). I haven't had a chance to figure out which one's the best and do whatever clean up is necessary on the mp3s. I'm tied up tight this weekend, and if my clean-up on the closing night tape was any indication, it may be the end of the week before they're done.
If you've gotta have it now, check The Singing Stage -- but I'm relatively certain the other two copies I got are better than the one that was just posted there.
THANK YOU! yes i needed them, quality wasn't everything, I am writing a script...I'll say no more.
Here I am writing my little entry (http://amanandamouse.blogspot.com/2008/08/see-carrie-musical-online.html) and then find your incredible musical buffet. I'll take Act 1 of closing night, please. No, I'll come back later for Act 2. Thanks for posting, Vinnie.
There seems to be a problem with Disc 1 of the Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium Cast. Multiple download attempts & each time unzip fails with all available zip-tools.
p.s. Many thanks for your resource and for the careful documentation.

I also am having a problem with the Gammel Cast
Do you have working links to download the Broadway soundtrack?
Michael, that's Rose Jackson who say's 'she's fierce' 'they are changing the FUCKING key' and 'what a fatso' Rose is the girl who sings, 'well he's taking ME to the prom' (after "I've got his ring")she was the understudy for CARRIE, i have a video of her rehearsing CARRIE and I REMEMBER with Cook
Hi, i tried to download both the broadway soundboard recording from closing night and the stratford upon avon March 8, 1988 but they are not working, can someone help?
Hi can that comment above from March 19, 2011 be removed due to that the users name is there. Please and thanks
Would someone be willing to share a new link for Linzi Hately's solo cabaret album version (1994) of "Carrie"? The link on the site doesn't work. If possible, it may be emailed to me directly at dwbruce@verizon.net.
Thanks,
David
